History
Wexford Folk Orchestra evolved from a group of musicians who, for more than 30 years, met weekly to play traditional and folk music.
The venue for these social sessions varied through the years including, Saint Patrick’s Square Band Room, Scoil Mhuire, and Coolcotts, until it settled in its current location at St Patrick's Fife and Drum Band Room in Bride Street.
In 2005, the group decided it should be officially named and have a more disciplined approach to its music. A committee formed and designated themselves the Wexford Folk Orchestra.
The orchestra gave its first public performance in 2006, under the leadership of Kevin McDermott and the baton of Tommy Hore, at Westgate Heritage Centre in Selskar Square.
Who We Are
We are pleased to release our new logo as of March 2025. The design incorporates images of fire and water, with a nod to Wexford Town's crest of burning ships of Viking lore, in the town's colours of purple and yellow. We hope you will come to relate this symbol to our organisation.
